★ EMPATHY. Valdins are natural empaths, allowing them to have a sense of how things feel around them, particularly in their environment. They're more attuned to nature, getting a general feeling if something is wrong with the atmosphere or place that they are, which to outsiders can seem like a precognitive sense that something will happen (a storm, flooding etc). ★ LONGEVITY. Valdin lifespans are long by comparison to many species, often known for living for many centuries before being considered old for their species, spanning between 500-700 years. ★ LANGUAGES. Trissana knows the three dialects of Vael that are spoken across the Valde System, along with Goldak. ★ COMBAT. Trissana learned hand-to-hand and melee combat skills during her imprisonment during the war, needing to learn how to fight to survive, becoming a proficient fighter with bladed weapons.
★ HISTORY
Trissana is the youngest in her family, born almost four decades after her siblings, the only child in that time. It led to her early years feeling lonelier, having no one around her growing up, leaning her towards more creative means of entertainment. As a child she loved stories, finding quiet spots in the fields or trees to read and imagine them, finding that the more she imagined and thought the more that she felt, becoming more attuned with her empathy and her planet. As she grew, Trissana tried various hobbies: music, gardening, athletics, finding her biggest peace came when she was in her garden.
As the decades turned to a century, Trissana's love of her garden expanded into a love of science, studying ecological and environmental sciences, leading her to her field of astrobiology. It ended up not only being her own planet that interested her but the others within the system and neighbouring systems. She began working on some of the short-flight research ships, analysing the data collected and studying the phenomena affecting the planets.
In 2098, war broke out between the Valdin and the Goldak, one of the neighbouring systems, after a Goldak ship attacked a Valdin ship. The disagreement quickly escalated, talks unable to draw anything to a peaceful resolution. Valde III, Trissana's homeworld became the most heavily affected, with soldiers invading and destroying much of their civilisation. Trissana would learn after the fact that her parents and 2 of her siblings were killed during the occupation, with her other siblings taking refuge on Valde II.
In 2115, the ship she was on ended up attacked and captured, with the crew that didn't die in the attack taken to Goldak as prisoners. Trissana was injured in the attack, leaving burns across her left shoulder that didn't heal well with the poor medical treatment given.
For the next two decades she spent time in a labor camp on Goldak as the war battled on. In 2139, a peace treaty was finally signed between the two species and all prisoners that remained were released. Trissana had seen friends die in the camps, had returned worn down and spent a period of time recovering physically and mentally before taking up a new fight: trying to help rebuild some of the communities that had been destroyed in the war, locating supplies and balancing the planet.
